Discova Joins Efforts to Eradicate Tourism-Related Child Labour in Indonesia

February 22, 2024

Discova is proud to announce that it has joined the Dutch Association of Tour Operators (ANVR) as a consortium partner to help in the Eradication of Tourism-related Child Labour in Indonesia. Supported by the Dutch Government, the research and consultancy firm CREM (responsible for the overall project coordination), and ECPAT Indonesia and Asia Management Consulting (implementing partners in Indonesia), this initiative aims to enhance due diligence management in the country’s tourism sector for systematic and continuous attention to the eradication of child labour.

A specific component of the project will focus on the eradication of tourism-related child labour in Bali (Ubud-Tianyar). Other partners in this initiative are Dutch tour operators ANWB Reizen, de Jong Intravakanties, Riksja Travel and Sawadee and other DMCs in Indonesia.

As a consortium partner, Discova will assist in general project-based guidance by participating in meetings, facilitating research and area-based approach and activating network and travel in the region. From a DMC’s perspective, we will also provide feedback on several draft outputs including training materials, action plan, toolkit and dissemination materials to combat the exploitation of children in the tourism industry. Discova will additionally be a part of due diligence training, tailored assistance, due diligence implementation and facilitate the training of tour guides.

Already a ChildSafe certified company, Discova is committed to protecting the well-being and welfare of children in our communities, as part of our responsible travel initiatives. Our new collaboration with ANVR and the other consortium partners is aligned with our existing partnership with the ChildSafe organization to equip our employees with the skills and knowledge required to protect children within the tourism industry and spread these best practices to others.

Discova’s Global Peopleworks Leader Michaela Connor adds, “As a proud partner of the ChildSafe Movement joining the ANVR consortium workshop aligns with and is an addition to our continuous focus and dedication on Child Protection through our already robust business practices. The tourism industry has a lot of influence, and at Discova we want our footprint in our local communities to be positive and leave a long-term lasting impact that helps the community thrive.”
